چکیده

Abstract, Magnetoresistance (MR) in bulk samples of LaMnO 3 has been investigated by varying the Mn 4+ content from 10 to 33 per cent by chemical means, without aliovalent doping. With the increase in Mn 4 + content, the structure of LaMnO 3 changes first from orthorhombic to rhombohedral and then to cubic and the material becomes increasingly ferromagnetic, exhibiting a resistivity maximum akin to an insulator-metal transition at Tpcak, just below the ferromagnetic T c. The magnitude of MR is highest in the cubic sample (with 33% Mn 4÷) around the Tpc,k, and negligible in the non-magnetic orthorhombic sample (12% Mn4+).

CoFe–Cu granular alloys: From noninteracting particles to magnetic percolation

CoFe–Cu granular films with ferromagnetic content ranging from 0.10 to 0.33 by volume were prepared by radio frequency sputtering. As-cast samples were rapidly annealed at various temperatures up to 750 °C to promote the segregation of CoFe particles within the metallic matrix. Magnetic and transport properties suggested that this family of samples may be classified into three groups: ~i! below...

Magnetic properties of Co/Re hcp„101̄0... superlattices

hcp(101̄0) Co/Re superlattices were grown via magnetron sputtering on Al2O3(112̄0) substrates. The thickness of the Co layers was approximately 1.8 nm with the Re layer thickness varying between 0.5 nm and 3.0 nm. Low angle x-ray reflectivity revealed that for our growth conditions the interfacial roughness is approximately 0.4 nm in each material at each interface. High angle x-ray diffraction, ...

Metallization and magnetic order in EuB6

We present the results of fieldand temperature-dependent resistivity r and magnetization M measurements which show that colossal magnetoresistance in semimetallic EuB6 is not associated with its bulk Curie temperature TC512.6 K, determined by a scaling analysis of M (H ,T), but with a second phase transition at TM515.5 K. We propose that metallization occurs at TM via the overlap of magnetic po...

Width dependence of giant magnetoresistance in Cu/Co multilayer nanowires

Electron beam lithography and ion milling have been used to pattern sputtered Cu/Co multilayer wires ranging in width from 750 to 35 nm. Samples having Cu thicknesses which correspond to the first, second, and third antiferromagnetic coupling maxima have been measured. Contrary to expectation, enhancement in the amplitude of the giant magnetoresistance with decreasing width was not observed. © ...

Calculation of Giant Magnetoresistance in Laterally Confined Multilayers

We have studied the Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) for laterally confined multilayers, e.g., layers of wires, using the classical Boltzmann equation in the current-in-plane (CIP) geometry. For spin-independent specularity factors at the sides of the wires we find that the GMR due to bulk and surface scattering decreases with lateral confinement. The length scale at which this occurs is of order ...
